So, I bit the bullet and joined the iPhone Development Program to get the iPhone 3.0 beta running on my device. So far, I'm really impressed with it. True, it's a lot of features that should have come somewhere between versions 1 and 2, but better late than never. And considering this is Apple I'm talking about, never was a strong possibility, as we all know they do things on their terms.
The biggest and best feature of the firmware update isn't the long awaited copy/paste, but the spotlight feature. When Palm showed the Pre to the world, I knew that Apple would see their competitor's ability to do fast system-wide search as the number one clear win over the iPhone. With the ease of spotlight's integration in this OS update, I have a sneaking suspicion Apple dodged a huge bullet.
Some of the other great features of 3.0 include search in email (it even searches through emails that are on the server and not on the device itself,) landscape aspect throughout Apple's top embedded apps, MMS (which has yet to be enabled in the beta,) a standard voice recorder app, the ability to log in to your Youtube account and a slew of other great updates.
The current beta Apple is circulation has a few bugs as of right now, such as the Safari having problems going into landscape and a frustrating glitch in the photos app that won't let you pan over the pictures. But I'm sure these will be fixed within the next month or so, as Apple will want to declare the software Gold Master sometime before this summer.
All in all, I'm really excited about iPhone 3.0. I can't wait to see what new iPhone hardware Apple will be giving us along side the worldwide release of 3.0!

So, I can see that posting pictures from Photobucket (which has really begun to suck) will take way too much time. Does anyone else know of a better way to post pictures on LJ pages, perhaps with thumbnails or some such. If I'm gonna keep this page up, I'll need a much smoother workflow...

Please explain this to me; Amazon just released the Kindle, it's e-book reader software, for the iPhone and iPod touch. Amazon themselves manufacture the hardware. They sell the software (e-books), but a large chunk of that profit go to the books publishers, authors, etc. So, one would think that their main financial focus would be on the sales of the hardware, of which they keep 100 percent of the profit. This business model can be best seen with Apple and it's iPod + iTunes ecosystem. Lose a couple pennies on the software to make a couple dollars on the hardware.
Now, if you can, as of tonight, experience the same software you would on the $360 Kindle you were thinking about buying on the iPod/iPhone you probably already own, why bother with the physical unit itself? Isn't Amazon screwing themselves over? Do they think they have better odds of making more money from selling a few dozen books on an Apple devise than of trying to get people to buy the actual Kindle? Before this development, I may have given a thought or two to purchasing a Kindle (if I could afford it.) But there's very little chance of me purchasing an actual unit now.
I can't wait to see how this affect Kindle sales.
Why not?

Even in clothes, he's ridiculously hot!

I've decided to use this journal for two things: Apple rumors/discussion, and pretty boys. Seeing as there's no new rumors to report...
Enjoy!
